My latest work is was inspired by a cute little girl who was running around at the Red Hill market. I was lucky to be able to sketch her as she played.
Well another weekend of markets over. First time at St Andrews market in the hills about an hour from Melbourne. Although it was not a sunny day every one there was really friendly and the location is great, surrounded by bush and wild life.

From the Chai Chill Out tent to Urthly Organic, beautiful soaps to gorgeous handmade candles from Hurstbrigde Honey it was a very pleasant day.

Flemington Market was quiet but got to do some drawing finally as my fingers are sore from sewing.

Claudia

Great day at Hanging Rock Market today.
My Beautiful Swallowtail Dolls made their first outing and to my surprise 3 of them found new homes, Claudia, Amber and Clare.
Back to another week of sewing, I have dug out some great fabrics, a fantastic English Chintz and Retro Print as well as some terrific trims.

With orders for next market looks like I will be busy.

Happy St Pats Day to all.
Just setting down to some last minute work for Hanging Rock Market tomorrow.
Have 5 gorgeous dolls to take, 3 that have been finished today, just some socks and shoes left to do. Now to name them, that's the fun bit, better get out the name book.
Sold all my bookmarks last market so made a trip down to the girls at Eureka Beads for some more supplies, so tonight will be a bit of beading as well.

Will get back into some illustration tomorrow so I will give you a sneak preview of some up and coming Swallowtail designs.

Wednesday 14 March 2012

An early start today, jumped on the sewing machine to get stuck into my new project with Swallowtail.
My drawings as below have been the inspiration for my design, Swallowtail Vintage Rag Dolls.
After years of working in the fabric industry and a love for vintage fabrics, my numerous boxes of fabrics and trims are bursting at the seams, I must do something with them.
I still have a doll my Nan made me sitting in the spare room with its quirky yellow gingham body, wool hair and 60s style body suit, so I asked myself, where have these much loved keepsakes gone these days? where are the Nana's and Grandma's that sew? Its all Barbie and Brats!!
Swallowtail Vintage Rag Dolls were born.

Welcome to the world of Swallowtail.

Through the wonders of blogging I will take you into the creative process behind the world of Swallowtail designs.

I often get asked questions about drawing and illustration and the inspiration behind where my images come from, so nows a chance for me to share.

Hopefully I will be able to inspire someone to pick up a pencil or brush, its really not that hard, so I will be happy give you all some pointers into my way of illustrating.

Please stay tune for more posts and if you have any questions in regards to any of my work, things I use, drawing techniques etc please feel free to ask.

You can also follow Swallowtail on Facebook to find out where I will be next!
